Past Projects
February 2011
3rd Year Social and Vocational Studies pupils from Mackie Academy joined Horizon for a successful Beach Clean up.
March, April, May 2010
We planted out 500 Thrift plants in the Wave Garden. We manned a stand in the Town Hall as part of the towns Open Day. We were able to promote both our work and the town businesses following the floods which hit the town in November 2009. We also took part in the Beach litter pick in association with the Keep Scotland Beautiful Campaign.
June 2010
The plants arrived and we filled the hanging baskets, planters and tubs throughout the town. Neil Menzies of Footprint provided the muscle for hanging the baskets by volunteering to be in the basket of the cherry picker.
July, August and September 2010
Are busy months in which we undertake watering of all the plants. We have ten full time teams and a reserve. We use Trevies to water the hanging baskets and containers, these were designed by one of our members. We also manned one of the Business Association Sunday Car Boot Sales.
Stonehaven Horizon was shortlisted for an award at the Annual Community Rail Awards. The work is carried out under Scotrails 'Adopt a Station' scheme. Deeside Timberframes backs the scheme and provided the floral tubs and mounted boxes along both the platforms at Stonehaven Station.
October 2010
Our annual bulb sale took place during this month and was very successful with the profit raised going towards our funds. We removed the seasons plants from the containers and re-planted them with spring bulbs and pansies.
December 2010
Santa arrived at the Harbour at on December the 4th and Stonehaven Horizon was there to welcome him and his helpers. We provided hot drinks and food for the children and their families. It was a really good day despite the windy weather.
